Not everyone is the same. Some people are naturally thin, others build muscles faster. If you’re creating a fitness goal, don’t compare your body and ultimate goals to others. You’ll be surprised that once you reach what you thought was your ultimate, you might rethink your goal and aim higher. It may mean making lifestyle changes like eating healthier, eliminating unhealthy habits, or even creating a sleep schedule so you always feel refreshed. You don’t have to do it all at once. You can tackle changes one at a time.
A big mistake is setting an impossible goal. One example is not considering your body type. There are three: ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph. Ectomorph bodies tend to be leaner and have problems gaining weight and muscle tissue. Endomorph bodies have the opposite problem. This body type is often big-boned. They find it hard to lose weight and have more curves than other body types. The third group is in the “Goldilocks zone.” They have more muscles than fat and quickly build muscle. If you’re an ectomorph body type, don’t expect to be stick-thin. Endomorphs may develop a svelte, sinewy muscular appearance but have difficulty achieving the bulging muscles of bodybuilders.
If your diet is unhealthy and the last time you exercised was when you lost the remote control, you may have several changes to make. Some try to make them all at once, but for most people, changing one thing at a time and making it a habit is the best way. If you want to make subtle changes in your exercise program while focusing on diet, start by walking or focus on eating more vegetables and less junk food if you start a fitness program.
List all the changes in your lifestyle that will make you the best possible you. Is it your diet, activity level, sleep schedule, or bad habits like smoking that interfere most with your health and happiness? Create a priority list. Start by focusing on the top priority. You can work on other goals but put the most effort into the primary one until it becomes habitual, usually between three and twelve weeks.
